Majestic Hydra Island

Hydra is one of the most beautiful islands of Argosaronicos Gulf, an amazing scenery of colors and sights, a breathtakingly beautiful island built amphitheatrically around the port. Hydra stands out for its wonderful architecture.
 
























The island will impress you with its classy and famous mansions, crossing its beautiful alleys, walking by the deep blue sea waters. The island owes its name to plentyfull waters, which gushed from the founds in the ancient years. You may reach the island by flying dolphins from the port of Piraeus, daily (journey time 1.30 hours) or by car from Athens (duration approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes).

Hydra island  played a major role in the Greek war of Independence (1821), due to its  large naval force. Hydra will definitely impress you with its beautiful mansions. As for the ıslands sıghts, you can  visit Hydra's  monasteries, Saint Efpraxia and Prophet Elias, Saint Trinity, Saint Matrona, Saint Nikolaos, Virgin Mary of Zoubra, Church of Dormition. Every year thousands of travellers are visiting some of the 300 Churches of the island. Many are the attractions of the island, as the Byzantine and Ecclesiastic Museum, Churches of Hypapante and St. John the Abstinent, Museum of History, the Bastions with cannons, the Manor of Lazaros Kountoyriotis (National Historic Museum) and the Manor of George Kountouriotis,  the Auditorium "Melina Merkouri e.tc..

 The small island Dokos, located in the west of Hydra, is definitely worth visiting. Hydra Town is the main and most popular area of the island, while there are other small territories such as Mandraki, Vlihos, Episkopi, Molos, Palamidas and Dokos, Platonisi, Stavronisi and Tríkeri. As for beautiful and clean beaches you  have many options: “Spilia”, rocky and popular beach, “Hydroneta” in blue waters, traditional Kamini Beach, organised beach Mandraki, ideal for watersports, Klimaki, the famous beach of Vlichos, Molos, sandy beaches, Palamidas and Kaoumithi, Bisti for underwater fishing, beaches of Saint Georgios and Saint Nikolaos,Nisiza,Limnionisa e.tc.
