Mykonos :The Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan and popular, Mykonos is one of the most famous islands of Cyclades. Mykonos has earned its reputation as Greece's most well known and cosmopolitan island due to its great nightlife and entertainment, luxury hotels, beautiful beaches, fabulous clubs
and deluxe restaurants. In order to access the island, ferries are departing daily from Piraeus port ( journey duration 5 hours), or speedboats (journey duration 3 hours). Also,  from Rafina port (speedboat 2.5 hours) or by airplane daily (flight time 35 minutes). Mykonos means a mass of stones or a rocky area . According to tradition,  the island name derives from a hero, called  Mykonos, son of  Delos King, Anios, who was  son of Apollo and nymph Rhoio - a descendent of Dionysus.
In Mykonos worshipped  gods Dionysus, Dimitra, Neptune and Apollo. Capital of the island is Chora (Mykonos town), located on the western side of the island. Popular areas of the island are: Mykonos Town (Chora), Platys Gialos, Ornos, Psarou, Panormos, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Kalafatis, Agios Ioannis,  Ano Mera, Tourlos.
Main attractions of the island are:  famous “Little Venice”, island's beautiful windmills, Church of Panagia Paraportiani, Panayia Tourliani Monastery, Palaiokastro Monastery, Petros the Pelican, island's mascot, Folklore Museum, Lena's House Museum, Aegean Maritime and Archaeological Museum, Agricultural Museum, The Boni Mill, Kalafatis-Divounia, where are preserved traces of prehistoric (early cycladic) era, Zoodohos Piyi (Cathedral), Churches Saint Kyriaki, Saint Nikolaos  Saint Eleni, Municipal Library and Art Gallery, Town Hall of Mykonos, Tria Pigadia,  Drafaki, the Mycenaean tholos tomb, the Tower of Platis Gialos,  Our Lady of the Rosary, the Roman Catholic church e.t.c:
As for the beaches: Paradise (Kalamopodi) and Platys Gialos, Super Paradise, which is  ideal for parties and clubbing, Agios Ioannis and Agrari for relaxing, Agios Stefanos, cosmopolitan “Elia”, Kalafatis, crystal clear waters, Agia Anna, Kalo Livadi, Kapari, Korfos, Megali Ammos, Lia, Ornos, Agios Sostis, Panormos, Paranga, Ftelia, ideal for windsurfing, Psarou, beloved  one of  island famous guests, Fokos etc.
Myconos municipality includes islands of Delos and Renia. Delos, the sacred famous island of Apollo, is a sacramental island of the ancient Greek. In the archaeological  museum and site  of Delos, one of the most important  in Greece,  are exhibited mosaics, statues, inscriptions, sculptures, etc.
