Agistri | Feels like Paradise



Agistri, the astonishing island of Argo -Saronic Gulf is a heaven on earth. The island sits one hour from Athens, and is an ideal destination for relaxation and pleasure.

It's the verdant landscape of astonishing beauty, the natural environment, and crystal clear waters that will impress you. 

You may visit Agistri by Ferry Boat from Piraeus port daily, so the journey time takes 2 hours. Moreover, by the flying dolphins the journey time takes 55 minutes. If it happens to be in Aegina you may visit the island by Agistri Express or by water taxi. 

Agistri initially was called Kekrifalia, which means 'adorned head'. The island was renamed 'Agistri' because the indescribable beauty of it motivated passengers to relocate there. The island was part of Eakos Kingdom, the King of Aegina. Agistri is a fantastic place to wander around and admire its beauty.

THE DISTRICTS IN AGISTRI 


Visit 'Megalochori', known as 'Mylos', the capital and the largest settlement on the island.'Skala', sits on the northeastern coast of the island, in the port of Agistri. There you will find a range of decent hotels to accommodate yourself.

Moreover, the districts worth visiting are 'Kadoudi',  the old village, and 'Metochi', a traditional village with a panoramic view. Also, 'Limni', known as 'Lekani', is a place filled with pines. Limenaria, too, won't let you down! 

One of the famous attractions of the island is the Cultural Centre in Megalochori. The island features a variety of beautiful churches like the church of Agioi Anargyroi, the church of Zoodochos Pigi, the chapels of Agioi Pandes, and Agioi Theodoroi. Agistri's churches include also the church of the Virgin Mary at Metochi and Agia Varvara at Polemi. Moreover, the church of Agia Kiriaki, and Agios Nikolaos, which is near Limenaria. 

Feel free to explore the island by riding the tourist train and walk-in the picturesque alleys. Be sure to ride a bike! Look at the natural transformation of the sky. So to marvel the colours of the sunset, and the deep blue of the sea. Agistri features attractions of picturesque and incredible beauty. 

THE BEST BEACHES IN AGISTRI

Apart from the natural beauty of Agistri, you will enjoy its beaches. 'Skala' boasts the most famous tourist beach on the island. 'Skliri' is a rocky beach surrounded by pine woods. 'Chalikiada' beach features a landscape with pebbles and crystal clear waters.

'Megalochori' features a sandy and pebble beach. You will love the sandy beach of Dragonera. Be sure to visit Aponisos Beach! That is to say, you will swim in crystal clear waters, and admire the natural beauty of the pine forests. One of the most beautiful beaches in Agistri is the picturesque rocky Mareza, sitting near Limenaria.
